What if there was a beautiful place for all the homeless from Tracy to S.Fl - Merced, where they bus everyone even with pets and take them far far away where they were never ridiculed, judged and had a clean, serene, private place to live. Somewhere where drugs and alcohol wasn't available so they would have to learn to live without - where therapist and doctors were available to see them through the worst. What if................. ... One of our group members wrote the most lovely email regarding our Granite Bay Family Support Group Monday night. I would like to share it:

"Good Afternoon,

Thank you for last night's meeting and the lovely packets. Candy and Kleenex are an awesome coupling.

On our way home, I mentioned to Don that is was funny that as we listened to stories of young family members who had recent diagnoses, we had forgotten our own son's 32 years ago. He was just 12 when a child psychiatrist diagnosed him with clinical depression and asked if we were aware of the rate of suicidal ideation. Aware? We were stunned speechless.

How could we have forgotten that time?

I think Mother Nature and Father Time are our friends, not just the conveyors of grey hair and wrinkles. They help us move on in courage and strength and hope. It is okay if we wobble at times, kick ourselves at times and eat too much chocolate and In N Out burgers at times. If we stay where our feet are, there is a path for sure.

If we walk it together, there will be enough lantern light for all of us on the darkest nights. There will be enough light to shine on the realities of brain illness so that others might see our path more clearly and maybe be able walk with us. Sometimes we need to nudge ignorance a little, even in ourselves, and especially in those who cannot know firsthand.

There was a beautiful woman last night who shared, and as she did, her face became radiant with love. I hope she knows who she was as I remember her hug. Love and hope.... here we go. If we didn't all have those two things, we would have stayed warm at home and watched Hallmark last night.

What a lovely email. Finding support especially this time of year is valuable. A new meeting will be starting in January. It is the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Rocklin library starting at 6:00 pm.

For the first time I felt I was not alone. I was among others who understood. Others with open minds, arms wide open compassion in their eyes and love in their hearts. Thank you to all I feel I have found my place.
